Lot 876		Apollo Space Suit Maintenance Kit: Incredibly Rare In-Flight Repair and Maintenance Kit of the A7LB Space Suit. Rare Apollo era artifact that is in equal measure fascinating and amusing. How does an astronaut repair a puncture or tear in their EMU (Extravehicular Mobile Unit) or spacesuit? With an Item Pouch Assembly, EMU Maintenance Kit, Part No. A6L-503058-XX Model A-6L 1/71 from ILC Industries, Inc. This compact kit made of beta cloth with velcro clasps has tubes of sealant, strip patches, tape fabric repair, seal replacement rings/gaskets, beta cloth patches, squares of all the UV protective foil layers, a syringe to press out sealant and instructions. A nearly complete kit however we note no needle and thread and anti-fog pads for the visor as mentioned in instructions These pouches flew on all Apollo flights on both the Command and Lunar Modules. Some soiling to outside of kit otherwise in remarkable condition and an extraordinary addition to any collection. 5 x 6" folded, completely open 14 x 12". Lot 877		Apollo Space Suit Detachable Checklist and Scissors Pocket Assemblies Used During Intravehicular Operations. An excellent and rare Apollo era artifact; the detachable pocket assembly worn almost just at boot level which contained data and operational checklists as well as a large pair of scissors. Belt loops located on the lower right and left leg areas of the outer pace suit Integrated Thermal and Micrometeoroid Garment (ITMG) held both pockets in position. The scissors pocket was sewn to the straps of the detachable checklist pocket located on the lower right leg area. Pouch 10 x 7 x 2½" with separate but attached scissors pouch 7½ x 3" Information sheet and diagram of all the components found attached to a space suit included. Part number A7L-201123-01. Lot 878		Apollo Space Suit: Detachable Data Checklist Pocket Assembly Strapped Onto the Outer Lower Legs While on the Lunar Surface. A fine Apollo era artifact, a detachable pocket assembly that was strapped to the shins of the space suit, the exact location determined by the crewmember. These pouches contained operations checklists and data checklist items easily accessed. However, these assemblies if necessary were also used as contingent lunar surface sample containers. An information sheet conveys with this lot that has an image of "Jack" Schmitt of Apollo 17 having strapped two on his suit, one on each leg, while removing a rock sample from the surface. Also a diagram pointing to all the parts on the exterior of a space suit is included which identifies the pocket assemblies. 9 x 7 x 2". A sponge has been placed inside pouch to maintain shape. Lot 879		Collection of Apollo 8 Through Apollo 16 Signed Covers, Many Commemoratives, 5 Moonwalkers Signing Including Neil Armstrong. Fine collection of Apollo Astronaut individually signed covers with many of the covers commemorating the mission they flew on. 1.) Apollo 8,Frank Borman has signed two commemorative Apollo 8 covers and William "Bill" Anders has signed a launch post card for Apollo 9 which comes with LOA by Zarelli Space Authentication. 2.) Dave Scott (later a Moonwalker) has signed a great Apollo 9 cover. 3.) Apollo 10, Gene Cernan (later a Moonwalker) and Tom Stafford have each signed an Apollo 10 commemorative cover. Stafford also signed a 3 x 5" card. 4.) Apollo 11, Neil Armstrong signed cover with LOA by Steve Zarelli Space Authentication, has signed a 1st Day Issue Project Mercury 4¢ stamp 5.) Apollo 12, Dick Gordon has signed an Apollo 12 splashdown cover, Alan Bean (Moonwalker) a generic cover. 6.) Apollo 13, Jack Swigert has signed an excellent liftoff cover canceled at NASA with their unique blue and gold stamp, Fred Haise a canceled cover from Edwards AFB. 7.) Lot 882		Apollo Space Suit Maintenance Package for Kit : Incredibly Rare In-Flight Repair and Maintenance Package Insert for Kit for the A7LB Space Suit. Insert replacement pack for the Apollo Space Suit Maintenance Kit. Apollo astronauts took aboard the Command and Lunar Modules these kits to make repairs to space suits in case punctured or torn. (Please see the lot with beta cloth pouch and similar packet). This packet differs from the one snapped into beta cloth pouch as it seems directed to space suit helmet issues. Pack includes latex patch strips for repair, gasket and seal replacement, and packs of cleaning/anti-fog pads with additional drying pads for cleaning the visors on the helmets. Lot 883		Apollo: Inscribed and Signed Photos to Dick Underwood from Apollo 7, Apollo 13, Apollo 14 and Apollo 17. Five NASA Photos Signed, 7 Signatures. Fine collection from the Dick Underwood collection of inscribed and signed color photos to him with all the photos having red serial numbers. Included in this collection are three individually signed photos from the crew of Apollo 7 Crew; Walt Cunningham, Wally Schirra and Don Eisele who also included a handwritten note. From Apollo 13 Jim Lovell has signed quite boldly dead center of a wonderful image of Earth. From Apollo 17 Gene Cernan, Jack Schmitt and Ron Evans have signed a photo of their mission insignia. Lot 884		Apollo Program Color Photographs with Red Serial Numbers, Excellent Quality, Stunning Images from the Dick Underwood Collection 135 Total (1927-2011) Richard "Dick" Underwood was chief engineer on the production of the first topographic maps of the moon. He was the first person to view every photograph from the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz and the first 23 space shuttle missions. He also provided technical training to every astronaut who went into space in the 20th Century. From Dick Underwood's personal collection, 95 color 8 x 10's, + 40 of the same color photos of Earth taken by Apollo 10. Of the 75 diverse color photos, most have red serial numbers and include press information printed on verso. These photos do not exhibit the color instability 40+ year old photographs have which is an overall turn to red being printed on Kodak paper at the time, then exacerbated by heat and humidity. These photos must have been specifically reprinted for the personal use of Dick Underwood, likely 20 years past. But they are on Kodak Professional Paper and know the colors are breathtaking, the images stunningly clear and the paper supple. Appear to be from Apollo 10 to Apollo 14. The 40 exact same photos of the Earth, are all the historic image taken by Apollo 10 that proved a sensation (Recall the Whole Earth Catalog) are black lettered, also appear to be vintage re-strikes and in beautiful condition. An unusual collection set aside from the bulk of vintage photos from the Underwood collection and they are lovely. LOA from Underwood family. Lot 885		Five Stunning Earth View Photographs Signed by Seven Apollo Astronauts, Four Moonwalkers; Conrad, Bean, Cernan, Schmidt. Proving the Earth is round, five amazing Earth view photographs signed by seven (7) Apollo Astronauts. 1.) Entire crew of Apollo 12 has signed a knockout red numbered NASA photo of the Earth taken during their mission, a little over half illuminated by the sun; Gordon, Bean and Conrad. 2.) Fred Haise of Apollo 13 has signed along top portion of the Earth on a beautiful red numbered photo taken during their aborted mission. 3.) Charlie Duke signing a closer view of the Earth on this red numbered photo taken during the Apollo 16 mission. 4.) From Apollo 17, a fantastic near cloudless red numbered image of a portion of the Earth signed and inscribed by Gene Cernan. 5.) Amazing imagery of various Lunar Modules or Command Modules during the Apollo program signed by the men who flew them. 1.) Apollo 12, striking B&W NASA publicity still dated November 19, 1969 of the LM on the moon signed by all crew members, Conrad, Gordon and Alan Bean who also signed Apollo XII identifying the photo. 2.) Apollo 13, Fred Haise signed image of service module. 3.) Apollo 14, lunar surface photo signed by all crew members Ed Mitchell, Alan Shepard and Steve Roosa as well as an additional image of the LM signed by Mitchell with the flare of the Sun adding a dramatic touch. 4.) Apollo 15 Command Module shot by a camera on the LM showing the full service and command module, signed and inscribed by Al Worden. Lot 888		Apollo Era Artifacts with One Flown on ASTP: Beta Cloth, Kapton Foil. Three nicely presented Apollo era artifacts all mounted on informative LOas. 1.) Flown segment of Kapton foil removed from heat shield of the ASTP Command Module #111 which flew 136 orbits around the Earth from July 15-24, the historic high point of course being the docking with the Soviet Union Soyuz spacecraft, authenticated by Ken Havekotte. Also included are two First Day covers, one Russian the other American each postmarked July 15, 1975 as well as each country's insignia stickers. 2.) Several samples of Apollo Lunar Module Kapton Thermal Blanket affixed to a very informative LOA which explains its use on the Lunar Module which provided protection from the extremes in heat and cold during the descent and ascent, authenticated by Ken Havekotte. 3.) Apollo Beta Cloth sample with image of space suit and label explaining its development and use. All items in excellent condition and very appealing. Lot 889		Collection of 4 Notebooks Exactly as Found from Dick Underwood's Personal Archive: Apollos 8, 9, 10 and 17, 80+ Vintage Original Photos (1927-2011) Richard "Dick" Underwood was chief engineer on the production of the first topographic maps of the moon. Collection of sleeved, three ringed binders of photos, a mixture of 8 x 10" vintage original B&W and color images with the color photos having red serial numbers. The B&W truly stand out. Know Underwood affixed on some of the images a bit of adhesive so photos would not slide out. The adhesive can be removed with care and a safe photographic solvent. The number of photos by mission: Apollo 8: 17 photos, Apollo 9: 24 photos, Apollo 10: 24 photos, Apollo 17: 16 photos. Photos are still in the binders Underwood housed them, the color photos showing evidence of dye instability due to age, heat and humidity common for 40+ year NASA color photos. Lot 890		60+ Scarce Covers Relating to All Apollo Missions Signed by Many of the Great Men & Women Behind The Scenes. Fine collection of very scarce covers, many First Day Issues, spanning 6 years and signed by many of the men who worked behind the scenes in every capacity, contributing greatly to the success of the Apollo program. No astronauts in this collection but a great number of notables to those with even a passing interest in NASA history. Superb signed cover by legendary Flight Director Eugene "Gene" Kranz (superbly played by Ed Harris in the film Apollo 13) and know his is an autograph we don't often get. Also included are other directors of various departments including astronaut flight crews, tracking and recovery heads, research heads and many more. Includes a cover signed by John Llewellyn, a pioneer in underwater archeology who was selected as a scientist-astronaut by NASA in August 1967 but after a year dropped out. Lot 893		Rare Vintage Original B&W NASA Photo Issued April 9, 1967 of the Severely Damaged Lower Forward Section of Apollo 1 Test. Apollo 1 (initially designated AS-204) was originally scheduled to launch on February 21, 1967. But in one of the worst tragedies for NASA at the time a cabin fire during a launch rehearsal test at Cape Kennedy, Launch Complex 34 on January 27 killed all three crew members�Command Pilot Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom, Senior Pilot Ed White, and Pilot Roger B. Chaffee. After extensive investigations, on April 9, 1967 NASA released this photo with press information on verso, laying out the report's findings but still claiming causes probable but not conclusive.
